CORNROWS describe a braided hairstyle that has been common in Eurasia and Africa since the Palaeolithic Age. The term Canerows is also used synonymously. Cornrows are worn by both women and men.
A minimum hair length of about ten centimeters should be given. The longer the hair on your head, the better the braids hold. A hair length of six to eight inches is particularly advantageous for thicker cornrows.
The braiding time depends on the length of the hair and the number of rows as well as the complexity of the pattern and is between thirty minutes and five hours.
The cornrows can simply be braided straight back (straight rows) or in patterns. There are different variations of cornrows:
Knotless Rows: Flowing synthetic hair is braided in so that no knots can be seen at the base.
Knotty Rows: The braid knot is visible at the base.
Amazing Rows or Designer Rows: Term for more elaborate patterns.
Cherokee Cornrows: The ends taper out long (similar to open braids).
DURABILITY AND MAINTENANCE
The braiding technique of the roots is very important for the durability of the cornrows. Therefore, the durability of cornrows varies from a few days to two and a half months, depending on the skill of the braider. Artificial hair is also often braided in, which can extend the shelf life by a few weeks.
Basically, it is advisable to avoid rubbing the cornrows, for example when washing, lather the shampoo in your hand and rub it into the cornrows and only dab the hair off and not rub it when drying it. For more freshness you can wear a satin scarf at night. For light-skinned people, it is advisable to protect the scalp from excessive solar radiation with sunscreen.
